AVX是一家从事无源电子元器件和互连接产品的设计、开发、生产和销售的公司，钽电容是由稀有金属钽加工而成，先把钽磨成微细粉，再与其它的介质一起经烧结而成。目前的工艺有干粉成型法和湿粉成型法两种。钽电容由于金属钽的固有本性，具有稳定好、不随环境的变化而改变、能做到容值很大等特点，在某些方面具有陶瓷电容不可比较的一些特性，因此在很多无法使用陶瓷电容的电路上钽电容被广泛采用。其中AVX公司生产的钽电容的产量相当可观。

1984 年，AVX公司 亚洲公司成立于香港。
1986年，AVX公司在新加坡开展了生产业务。
1987年，AVX公司在台湾和韩国设立了销售分公司。
1990 年，AVX 公司跨出了战略联盟的重要一步，即与日本 kyocera 公司合伙，从而使这二家无源微电子技术的世界巨头在专业特长、开发经验、专有技术和市场能力方面实现强强联合。同一年，AVX公司扩大了在亚洲的业务、在印度尼西亚的 batam 设立了生产基地、在马来西亚设立了销售分公司。
1993 年，AVX公司新加坡和香港的部门均通过了 iso9002 质量标准认证。新加坡的分公司还扩大了业务和规模。
1994 年，AVX公司在战略联盟上又有了新的举措、即与 elco 公司合伙。该公司是优质电子连接器和互连接系统的世界级供应商。AVX公司在亚洲不断发展、在中国上海设立了销售部。
1996 年，AVX公司在上海设立了一家工厂。
1997 年，AVX公司在天津设立了一个仓库。
1998 年，AVX公司收购了汤姆逊（thomson）的无源元器件公司，使现有的众多品种又增添了铁氧体器件、薄膜电容器和电力电容器。
